제목 Surface functionalization of halloysite nanotubes by grafting of poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) for bioactive interface via covalent immobilization of penicillin
초록 A synthetic strategy for the functionalization of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) by poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (PPEGMA) via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) allowing the covalent immobilization of antibiotics for the first time is developed. Multiamine polymer-functionalized HNTs were synthesized by controlled SI-ATRP of poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate to form HNTs-g-PPEGMA, followed by silanization using (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane to afford HNTs-g-PPEGMA-NH2 nanohybrids. Subsequently, penicillin was anchored on the surface of HNTs-g-PPEGMA-NH2 with multiamine groups on the external layers via the carbodiimide chemistry. The covalently attached penicillin retained their antibacterial activities against pathogens like Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
