Synthesis and characterization of SiO2/PNIPAm nanocomposites by the combination of click chemistry and ARGET ATRP |

In this paper a novel route for the versatile and efficient functionalization of SiO2 NPs with thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) has been disclosed. In this approach, tailor-made thiol-functionalized SiO2 nanoparticles and alkene-functionalized PNIPAm were used as precursors. The synthetic polymer was characterized by 1H NMR and GPC. FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, XPS, TGA and dispersion experiments were used to confirm the success of the functionalization. In addition, the cytotoxicity assay of as-synthesized nanocomposites was induced in order to evaluate their potential utilization toward biomedical applications. |
