Utilizing 3D SERS Active Volumes in Aligned Carbon Nanotubes Scaffold Substrates |
초록 |
Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) can be maximized when electromagnetic fields are confined in small gaps between nanoparticles referred to as “hot spots” and the population of hot spots increases. We fabricated 3-dimensional (3D) structures of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with a high-density of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) by a process of annealing a thin gold film deposited on top of the carbon nanotubes. Without any surface chemistry for gold nanoparticles’ decoration, densification of the nanotubes film through van der Waals interactions in the 3D structure led to a drastic decline in distance between gold nanoparticles bound to the nanotube’ walls and this phenomenon generated SERS signals with highly increased intensity. 4-mercaptophenol (4-MPH) was employed as a probe molecule to investigate the SERS sensitivity along the depth of the aligned CNTs film. The 3D SERS-active substrate performance was tested with minimum laser power and integration time at the various numerical aperture and focal volume. This substrate shows highly sensitive SERS signals at very low target concentrations of 4-MPH, down to 10 fM. |
