Proliferation, differentiation and functions of cells are regulated by the extracellular matrix(ECM). Natural ECMs such as collagen, fibronectin and laminin have been revealed to control spreading, migration, adhesion and proliferation of cells. Synthetic ECMs replace many functions of the natural ECM by organizing cells into a three dimensional architecture, providing mechanical integrity to the new tissue. In this study, we compared hepatocytes behaviors between galactose-carrying natural polymer, xyloglucan obtained from tamarind seed and galactose-carrying polystyrene, poly(N-p-vinylbenzyl-4-o-β-D-galactopyranosyl-D-gluconamide)(PVLA). The effects of polymer concentration on morphology of hepatocytes, temperature, calcium and magnesium ion on hepatocytes attachment were performed. Also, DNA synthesis of hepatocytes and mechanism of hepatocytes attachment were studied. |
