Drug Release From Mucoadhesive Xyloglucan Beads For Colon-Specific Drug delivery System |

Xyloglucan, which exhibits thermally sol to gel transition, and which has the advantage of non-toxicity and low gelation concentration, is of interest in the development of sustained release vehicles. In this study, xyloglucan beads containing drug were prepared by extruding dropwise a dispersion of indomethacin in aqueous xyloglucan solution(2w/v%) through a disposable syringe into a corn oil. The enhancement of the adhesive property of xyloglucan bead by washing with ethanol was tested. The enteric coating of xyloglucan bead with EUDRAGIT L 100 was performed to achieve colon-specific drug release. The potential, as vehicles for colon-specific drug delivery, of the EUDRAGIT-coated xyloglucan beads formed in situ following the oral administration has been assessed by in vitro studies.
