Membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) for high temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (HTPEMFC) were fabricated using acid doped polybenzimidazole (PBI) as the electrolyte membrane and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as the electrode binder. The amount of PTFE in the electrode was differentiated to 20, 30 and 45 wt% in the experiment to find the optimal binder content. In addition, changes in the performance according to the introduction of pressing process during MEA fabrication were examined. When MEA was prepared without pressing process, the electrode containing 20 wt% of PTFE showed the most excellent cell performance (338 mA cm-2, @0.6 V). On the contrary, the electrode containing 45 wt% of PTFE showed high cell performance when MEA was manufactured with pressing process (281 mA cm-2, @0.6 V). |
