Injectable hydrogels have been extensively investigated for using, exclusively, in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. In order to pursue a possibility for the interventional hydrogels targeted at a tumor site, A pH-sensitive random block copolymer was synthesized by free radical polymerization of sulfamethazine acrylate(SMA), methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)methacrylate(MPEGMA) and 1-butane poly (ε-caprolactone) methacrylate (BuPCLMA). For MPEGMA-BuPCLMA-SMA solutions, the sol-gel transition was achieved at slightly acidic pH, which was not previously observed in the anionic hydrogels containing sulfamethazine. Since the gel formation of the block copolymer was not induced by the physiological condition(37℃ and pH 7.4), this hydrogel can be employed as an injectable carrier using a long guide catheter(sol state: pH 7.4-8) into the tumor site(gel state: pH 5.5). Therefore, This pH-sensitive block copolymer shows a good promise in an interventional drug delivery system. |
