The first time a novel hybrid adsorbent of metal molybdate (Zr(IV), Fe(III) or Sn(IV) molybdate) nanoparticles dispersed into a macroporous structure of commercial anion exchanger (MSA) resin, MSA-M-Mo, was fabricated in purpose of enhancing selectivity and efficiency of phosphate sorption. These adsorbents exhibited excellent efficiency of phosphate sorption in presence of high sulfate concentration. The high efficiency of phosphate sorption was inherent the Donnan membrane effect, contributing to enhance the specific adsorption on loaded nanoparticles. FTIR and XPS analysis were supported to discuss mechanism of phosphate adsorption on the hybrids, indicating the unique properties of molybdate group and the surface hydroxyl group played the key roles in phosphate adsorption. These results promise the hybrid MSA-M-Mo as the new, novel and effective adsorbents for phosphate removal from water and waste water. |
