제목 Engineering Vibrio sp. dhg for Brown Macroalgae-based Biorefinery
초록 Although brown macroalgae holds anenormous potential as an alternative feedstock, its utilization by conventionalmicrobial platforms has been limited due to the inability to metabolize one ofthe major sugars, alginate. Here, Vibrio sp. dhg, a novel,fast-growing bacterium that can efficiently assimilate alginate was isolated.Based on systematic characterization of the genomic information of Vibrio sp.dhg, a genetic toolbox was established for its engineering, and its ability torapidly produce a broad spectrum of chemicals (ethanol, 2,3-butanediol, andlycopene) from brown macroalgae sugar mixtures with a high productivity andyield was demonstrated. Collectively, the Vibrio sp. dhg wasexpected to be a powerful platform for the conversion of brown macroalgaesugars whose usage will dramatically accelerate the production of value-addedbio-chemicals.
