This study introduces a straightforward method for synthesis of magnetic-patchy Janus microparticles. For this, we first synthesize amphiphilic Janus microparticles by using seeded monomer swelling and consecutive polymerization-induced phase separation. To provide reaction sites to one of bulb surfaces, the vinyl acetate in the polystyrene seed bulb is transferred to vinyl alcohol by saponification. Then, metal precursors are reduced to precipitate on the hydroxyl groups on the bulb of the Janus microparticles. Finally, we show that our magnetic-patchy Janus microparticles can assemble to form stable O/W Pickering emulsions which are easily recoverable under magnetic field |
