Friction of Glass Lubricants for High Temperature Alloy Forging |

Tribological properties of glass based lubricant in forging process for titanium based alloy and nickel based high temperature alloys are important to fabricate well smooth and high quality surface of alloys. We have prepared a high temperature tribology tester to measure friction coefficient of glass based lubricant under very high pressure using alumina based substrate and alumina probe and evaluated the effect of temperature and pressure on friction coefficient. Change in friction coefficient of alumina substrate with and without glass lubricant coating was measured by heating both alumina substrate and prove up to high temperature. It is shown that friction coefficient of glass lubricant coated alumina can keep almost constant low in spite of increase in load pressure though friction coefficient of alumina without any coating increase with increase in load pressure. |
