Polymer–inorganic nanocomposites have attracted considerable attention during recent decades because they exhibit greatly improved physical and mechanical properties or new functional properties at relatively low inorganic filler loading levels in comparison with conventional microcomposites. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) is attracting significant interest as a new class of nanomaterial that can be combined with polymers to improve performance properties. In this study, PLA/POSS nanocomposites with two different type of POSS were prepared by a melt blending, and their thermal and mechanical properties as well as their morphology were investigated by DSC, DMA, tensile testing and TEM. The two POSS used here are commercially available POSS diol and POSS-g-PLA, which was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of lactide using POSS as a initiator. |
