Synthesis of Chain-extended Organifier and Properties of Epoxy/clay Nanocomposites |

Epoxy/clay nanocomposites were synthersized by using melt intercalation method. In order to prepare enhanced Epoxy/clay nanocomposite, the pristine clay was newly modified for increasing compatibility with epoxy. The pristine clay was modified by cationic exchange method, the organic modification of the pristine MMT was based on N-methyl diethanol amine(MDEA). Four kinds of organoclays were syntersized. The organifiers were inserted to interlayers of the organoclays and the d-spacing values were investigated by X-ray diffraction technique. Scanning electron microscopy was also employed to investigated the cluster distribution inside the composite. Glass transition temperature, thermal stability is increased with increasing the clay content. The fracture toughness of Epoxy/clay nanoconmosites were increased. The critical intensity factor(KIC) of 2wt% J230 organoclay inserted specimen(E J230_2) was 1.49 times higher than that of neat epoxy specimen. |
