Recently, mesophilic anaerobic digestion receives great attention from engineers as a solution for issues related with organic wastes, e.g., food waste and swine manures. It can generate energy through biogas production, while stabilizing the wastes. However, a few anaerobic digesters fed with food waste or animal waste experience frequent failure and unstable performances. Feed often affects the system’s pH, which is one of the critical operating parameters for the best performance of an anaerobic digester. In practice, however, it is hard to on-line monitor and to control the system pH, due to the system’s high solids contents; it is very hard to provide enough mixing to the system. In this presentation, therefore, an innovative control scheme to adjust pH of the methane producing reactor in a two-phase anaerobic digestion system is introduced. |
