Ionic liquids are well known as environmentally benign media for catalytic processes or chemical extraction because of their outstanding properties. The ionic liquids have recently been successfully applied as immobilizing reagents for transition metal catalysts, combining the advantages of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis and leading to improved process performance. In this study, metal-containing ionic liquids (MILs) were prepared by a metal insertion reaction and characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, ICP-OES and XPS. The MILs showed excellent catalytic performance for the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide with various epoxides. The effects of the reaction parameters such as catalyst amount, reaction time, CO2 pressure, and reaction temperature on the reactivity of MILs were also studied, and reaction mechanism including the role of MILs catalyst was proposed. |
