Luminescence Properties of Er3+ doped YbPO4/YbPO4 Core/Shell Nanoparticles |

Er3+ doped YbPO4 nanoparticles capped with ligand, which provide a rigid crystal environment for the dopant ions and can be easily dispersed without agglomeration in organic solvent, may be considered as active components in light-emitting devices, low-threshold lasers, optical amplifiers, and for the labeling of biomolecules. However, it is reported that the quantum efficiency of Er3+ doped YbPO4 nanoparticles is still low. It is attributed to the energy-loss occurred by high energy vibration of organic ligands and OH group adsorbed at the particle surface. In this work, to enhance the quantum efficiency of Er3+ doped YbPO4 nanoparticles, Er3+ doped YbPO4/YbPO4 core/shell nanoparticles were synthesized by the solution method using a high boiling coordinating solvent. The crystallinity and morphology of Er3+ doped YbPO4/YbPO4 core/shell nanoparticles were investigated by XRD and TEM. The photoluminescence spectroscopic studies of the Er3+ doped core/shell nanoparticles were performed. Also, the luminescence lifetime and the quantum yield of the Er3+ emission were measured. |
