The electron donoris essential to provide respiratory energy to the metabolism of livingorganisms. Someelectroactive bacteria can directly uptake electrons from the solid electrodesurface. Most studies focus on reduction of C1 gas feedstock,so far less is known about the electrode attached /suspended cell and their metabolic products in CO2fixation. In this study, we focused on PHB as the targetproduct from CO2 electrosynthesis to examine the electrode attachedand suspended Rhodobacter sphaeroides. Our results show that electrode attached cell grow slowly but focus on energystorage (i.e., PHB production). One the other hand, the suspended cell growsfaster than electrode attached cell, so the apparent yield of PHB is higher. Notably, although cells growth is retarded, and both Rubisco form I and II are highlydown-regulated in attached cell, but in the dark condition, the NADH dependentisocitrate dehydrogenase expression is stimulated in electrode attached cell. |
