The polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) have been of interest as future displays and lightings because of their advantages such as light weight, thin thickness, contrast ratio, response time and flexibility. The light-extraction structures including microlens arrays have been adapted to improve the efficiency of PLEDs. In this work, we fabricated novel microlens arrays based on an organic-inorganic hybrid sol on the flexible substrate. Alumina nanoparticles were dispersed in microlens arrays to extract light and block the gas molecules. The further light-extraction from the alumina nanoparticles in microlens array were confirmed by diffusive reflectance and PL spectra. As a result, the flexible PLEDs with novel microlens array exhibited not only enhanced efficiency but also the improved stability from the blocking of gas molecules. Furthermore, alumina nanoparticles were inserted in the irregular microlens arrays to minimize optical side effects as well as to improve the efficiency. |
