Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) have been developed as alternatives to chlorofluorocarbon (CFC). Nevertheless the destruction of waste HCFCs are requested because of their green house effect and a certain ozone depletion effect. Microwave discharge electrodeless lamps (MDELs) is the absorption of high-frequency electromagnetic waves produced by a microwave generator by noble gases and vaporizable elements in the lamp, which results in UV emission. In this study, the MDEL-Hg was employed to investigate the photolysis of chlorodifluoromethane (HCFC-22). The removal performance was examined under different conditions with different initial HCFC-22 concentrations, gas residence times and oxygen concentrations. The removal efficiency of HCFC-22 was highest when the inlet concentration was lowest because of limited photon energy available for unit amount of HCFC-22. |
