Organic sulfur battery has become prospective secondary battery, because it provides high capacitance(~1675 mAhg-1) and uses cheap and abundant sulfur. However, the conventional sulfur battery still has some problems; low kinetics, polysulfide shuttling, insulating products, unsafe, expensive and sensitive. The aqueous electrolyte-based unique redox-chemistry, which is fairly different from that in organic sulfur battery, provides a strategy to resolve the aforementioned problems by designing new materials and cell constructions. Hence, this research is focused to develop aqueous sulfur battery. Sulfur impregnated nitrogen doped activated carbon (NAC-S) was used as cathode and was performed in three electrode configuration using aqueous electrolyte. The NAC-S exhibited the specific capacitance as high as 150 Fg-1 at scan rate of 5 mVs-1 with a potential range of -1.0 to 0.1V. Based on this research, the enhanced host material and aqueous system could be implemented in near future. |
