Synthetic polymers usually have multivariate distribution in various molecular properties. Even a polymer prepared by anionic polymerization inevitably has a distribution in molecular weight to some extent. Consequently, block copolymers prepared by sequential anionic polymerization have bivariate distribution in molecular weight and composition. In this talk, our efforts on precise molecular characterization of block copolymers by LC will be presented. In addition, we investigated the epitaxial phase transitions between the various ordered phases of PS-b-PI in thin film on Si wafer substrate. Internal structure of the thin film was investigated by GISAXS, TEM and transmission electron microtomography (TEMT). TEMT allows observing the 3D-image of coexisting phase and their epitaxial relationships directly. Good domain orientation in thin film and the 3D-imaging of TEMT made the precise structural characterization of the coexisting phases and their epitaxial transition paths possible. |
