Effect of contact number on ground copper powder depends on different ball filling ratios using ball milling process with DEM simulation |

This study investigates the effect of contact numbers between balls and copper powder on morphology using the different ball filling ratios via a planetary ball mill. A scanning electron microscope was used to analyze the effect of contact number between balls to powder by particle morphology change of copper. The morphology of copper was changed to spherical type as the contact number between powder and ball increases due to the ball filling ratio after it is deformed. Therefore, we studied the effect of the ball filling ratio on the impact energy in the milling process by numerical simulations based on the discrete element method (DEM). The relationship between the contact number and particle morphology change was analyzed with various experimental conditions by calculating the impact energy through DEM simulation.Keywords: contact number, particle morphology, a planetary ball mill, ball filling ratio, DEM simulation |
