제목 Effect of polymerization temperature in polymerization of propylene oxide by using highly active multi-metal (Zn/Co/Fe) cyanide catalysts
초록 Polyether polyols produced by conventional KOH catalyst at high temperature above 100℃ are the mainstay of the polyurethane industry. Polyether polyols produced by conventional KOH catalyst have high level of unsaturation because isomerization reaction, chain transfer reaction and termination reaction are accelerated at high temperature. These polyols of high unsaturation level result in inferior mechanical properties and processing characteristics of polyurethane. Multi-metal cyanide catalysts (MMC) have been studied to overcome these disadvantages. MMC gives polyols that have relatively low unsaturation and a narrow molecular weight distribution. However, the unsaturation of polyols produced by MMC also increases with polymerization temperature.
In this study, we polymerized propylene oxide by using invented, highly active multi-metal catalysts at various temperatures (ex. 30 ~ 130 ℃). Newly developed multi-metal catalysts produced polyols with reduced levels of unsaturation (typically 0.002 ~ 0.006 meq/g) relative to conventional KOH catalyzed polyols (typical unsaturation of 0.03 to 0.10 meq/g).
