Anion exchange membranes (AEM) have been considered as essential materials for electrochemical application such as anion exchange membrane fuel cell (AEMFC) and water electrolysis. For advancement in high performance of AEMFC, anion exchange membrane (AEM) with excellent stability and high ion conductivity is required. In this study, we have designed and synthesized a poly(p-phenylene)-based multiblock copolymers using a chain extender for molecular weight optimization that affects the stability and performance of AEM. A series of multi-block poly(p-phenylene)s containing a quaternary ammonium group were synthesized by Ni(0)-catalyzed coupling reaction, benzylic bromination and in-situ quaternization, successively. In particular, we measured the chemical, mechanical stability and performance of poly(p-phenylene) based ionomer. |
