In Vitro Osteogenic Differentiation of Adult Stem Cells |

Adult stem cells (ASCs) have been shown to differentiate toward the osteoblastic lineage in vitro and in vivo upon stimulation with several osteogenic factors. ASCs possess the low immunogenicity and are able to escape from immune response. We herein examined the bone formation from adipose tissuederived stem cells (ADSCs) and rat muscle-derived stem cells (rMDSCs) in the presence of osteogenic medium. Osteogenic characteristics were identified by assaying for alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and by von Kossa staining for mineral nodules. We found that ALP and von Kossa stained expression of hADSCs and rMDSC grown in osteogenic medium was significantly higher than in cells grown in unsupplemented culture medium.
