Boron and nitrogen co-doped carbons have proven to be effective for adsorption and activation of p-nitrophenol (p-NP). However, their performance is limited by low heteroatom doping efficiency. In this study, the boron and nitrogen co-doped porous carbon (BN-PC) is synthesized by direct pyrolysis of coffee waste and boric acid under N2 flow. This method can achieve a high B and N content which enhance p-NP reduction. The BN-PC are characterized by SEM-EDX, BET, XRD, and TGA analysis. The catalytic property of BN-PC towards the reduction of p-NP is studied in the presence of NaBH4 using UV-vis spectroscopy. The BN-PC exhibits outstanding catalytic performance due to the synergistic effect of high heteroatom doping and hierarchical porosity. |
