Poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) has ultrahigh strength, thermal stability, and low thermal expension, making them attractive in many applications. However, high melting point and poor solubility of PPDT make processing difficult. In this study, PPTA was synthesized in NMP from 1,4-Phenylene diamine and Terephthaoyl chloride. Then, N-substitution of aromatic amide group of PPTA with Allyl bromide, t-butyl benzyl bromide, or benzyl chloride was performed in order to increase solubility of PPDT in common organic solvents. Molecular characteristics of N-substituted PPTA were characterized by NMR, GPC, and FT-IR, etc. |
