제목 Iron modified clay beads: A sustainable adsorbent for the removal of arsenic from aquatic environment
초록 The natural sericite clay modified with iron-oxide was encapsulated into beads using Na-alginate and Fe3+ ions by a simple cross-linking method. The SEM image has shown a heterogeneous surface of the bead, and high content of iron is observed by EDX analysis. Moreover, the iron content in the beads was determined by US EPA 3050B method. Batch experiment showed that the beads possessed high affinity for the adsorption of As(V) within a wide range of pH and initial concentrations. The adsorption capacity of the beads is evaluated using Langmuir adsorption isotherm and found to be 21.61 mg/g for As(V). Moreover, the uptake of As(V) was not affected by the 1000 times increase in the ionic strength of the solution and suggests that the As(V) species were specifically adsorbed by the composite beads.. This investigation suggests the beads must be promising and sustainable adsorbent for the removal of arsenic from the aquatic environment.
