Temperature and frequency dependent dielectric properties of BaTiO3-NaNbO3 solid solutions |

The barium titanate (BaTiO3) based solid solutions with complex perovskite structures show variety in dielectric and ferroelectric properties, which originated from the substitutions of A- and B-site cations with different valences and/or ionic sizes. A complex perovskite system with compositions of (1-x)BaTiO3-xNaNbO3, 0.1<x<0.3 were explored using both conventional solid state synthesis and sol-gel routes. All the compounds showed relaxor ferroelectric behaviors, as expected in the composition range. However, there was a dependence on compositions for the Tm, which is the temperature where it exhibits dielectric loss maximum. Since the Tm directly affects temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric properties of the relaxor ferroelectrics in the application temperature range of the dielectric materials as a capacitor component, a systematic study has been done for the dielectric properties to figure out the proper composition for promising high temperature capacitor applications. Phase formations, densifications, crystal structures, and microstructures have been exclusively studied. Dielectric characterizations at wide temperatures and frequencies revealed the close relations of the relaxation behaviors with the manner of the phase formations, which are determined by the ceramic processing routes. |
