Herein, we report a gelation-based single-step sensing platform of biomarkers in complexed biofluids. It was observed that horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-mediated gelation of catechol-conjugated polymers highly depended on the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration. Therefore, we employed H2O2-generating enzymes such as glucose oxidase (GOx) and d-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) as detectors that effectively trigger the gelation in the presence of their substrates (i.e., biomarkers). Given the specificity and sensitivity of natural enzymes, 8 mM of glucose and 10 mM of alanine in human serum were successfully detected through the gelation within 50 and 30 minutes, respectively. Naked-eye detection without expensive and complicated equipment can be the ultimate advantage of the developed gelation-based biomarker detection platform. |
