제목 Highly Active Drop-casted Platinum Nanocube Catalysts for (Photo)Electrochemical Hydrogen Evolution Reaction
초록 With a fast and simple drop-casting, Platinum nanocubes (NCs) synthesized by colloidal method were applied to electrochemical (EC) and photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems as hydrogen evolution reaction electrocatalysts. We achieved a remarkable Pt mass activity of 1.77 A/mg at -100 mV in EC systems (fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO)/Pt NC cathode) with neutral electrolyte, and it also showed minimized Pt loss (~ 6%) between Pt precursor and drop-casted Pt NC. When applied to PEC systems (based on a Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) photocathode), we achieved a maximum onset potential of 0.678 V against the reference hydrogen electrode by carefully choosing Pt NC loading amount to compromise between better light transmittance and higher current density. The photoelectrodes also exhibited good long-term operational stability over 9.5 hours with negligible degradation and over 11 hours with 80% of the photocurrent. Our study presents an effective strategy to greatly reduce the use of expensive Pt without compromising the catalytic performance. It also presents an extra benefit of further reducing the usage of Pt because the drop-casting of Pt NC solutions is expected to waste less raw materials than vacuum deposition.
