Preparation and Evaluation of Chitosan/PLGA bilayered Nanofiber for Anti-adhesion Barrier |

Post-operative peritoneal adhesions are common and give serious complications for surgeons. They can cause pelvic pain, infertility, and potentially lethal bowel obstruction. In this study, we fabricated and evaluated the effect of bilayer sheet containing non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug on the prevention of post-surgical tissue adhesion. For this, bilayered nanofibrous sheets composed of chitosan and poly(lactide-co-glycolide)(PLGA) with polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) were fabricated by electrospinning method. The bilayered Chitosan/PLGA nanofibrous sheet was characterized by several spectroscopic methods. Mechanical properties and in vitro results showed that bilayered Chitosan/PLGA nanofibrous sheet was suitable for anti-adhesion barrier. From in vivo animal test, it was observed that bilayered nanofibrous sheets were significantly effective in preventing post-operative adhesion and wound healing. |
