One of the important issues in the photocatalytic applications is the design and synthesis of nano-structured photocatalyst which can easily be recycled from the treated water. The encapsulation of iron oxide with titania layer can solve the recovery problem from the aqueous medium by a magnetic force. In addition, the catalytic activity of titania capsules can be improved by doping noble metals (Au and Ag) on the titania surface because nano-sized Au (Ag) can serve as a reservoir of photoelectrons. In this work, core-shell Fe3O4@TiO2 doped with nanometals (Ag or Au) were facilely prepared through the combination of sol-gel reaction and sonochemical reduction method. The resulting Fe3O4@TiO2@Au(or Ag) displayed effective magnetic recovery as well as improved photocatalytic activity. |
