Recently as water resource has become an important issue, more practical high performance material is required. However, fouling and its consequences in terms of operating costs limit the widespread use of membrane. In order to solve the fouling problem, we used A/B and C polymer blend system. A/B in this blend means an diblock copolymer which has a hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) and hydrophobic polyethylene blocks. The third polymer is a polyelectrolyte homopolymer, poly(acrylic acid). The block copolymer and polyelectrolyte were blended onto a macroporous support membrane with self-assembled nanostructure. The nanostructure was induced by annealing and the polyelectrolyte was selectively removed afterwards, therefore, a nanoporous structure was created. We chose a layer-by-layer process in this blend sytem and studied the composition of the deposited film. We observed the potential of these films for water purification and the film provided a great benefit of anti-biofouling. |
