Cellulose nanofibril (CNF) is known as a natural polymer on earth that can be obtained from plants through mechanical or chemical treatment of cellulose. It is an eco-friendly and highly functional material with advantages such as renewability, biodegradability, biostability, and high thermal stability. Recently, in the bio-fields including cosmetics, CNF is attracting attention because it enhances the colloidal stability and water retention properties. For practical use, aqueous CNF should be mixed with many ingredients such as dispersants, polyols and oils, where polyols are one of key ingredients due to compatibility to both water and oil. Therefore, it is important to know the CNF behaviors such as dispersion and viscosity in these mixtures. In this study, rheological properties of aqueous CNF dispersion were investigated in terms of polyol concentration, which would provide better understanding of CNF behaviors. |
