As a natural polymer, chitin is abundant in nature, and is mostly obtained from crab shells, shrimp, and squid. Insects are attracting great attention as a next-generation alternative resource, and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) is a representative insect among them. These BSFs are raised for the purpose of waste disposal and animal feed, and research on extracting chitin from BSF is being conducted. In this study, chitin was extracted from BSF, and chitosan was prepared through deacetylation of such chitin. The prepared chitin/chitosan was nanofibered to examine various physical properties. In conclusion, BSF is an important raw material for obtaining uniform quality chitin/chitosan through uniform breeding conditions and has various potential applications for cosmetics, medicines, and coating materials through comparison with conventional sea-derived chitin/chitosan. |
