Forward osmosis(FO), which is a promising method for producing water with low energy, has been of great interest to researchers for many years. There have been numerous attempts to analyze FO process through computational model. However, the conventional film model approach fails to describe detailed phenomena, such as flow in channels and porous support. Using 2D finite element CFD model, we were able to describe the fluid flow and salt transport as well as fully coupling them together. For fluid flow, Navier-stokes equation was used in channels, Brinkman equation in porous support, general flux equation in active layer. For salt transport, convection-diffusion equation was used. The result shows the velocity and concentration of the solution at every point at one glance. This means that we can see detailed phenomena exactly and rapidly. Further developing this model, we would be able to identify precise parameters for FO. And it will also give us broader insights for understanding FO process. |
