Nano-hybrid of Molybdenum oxide and SWCNT for ethanol sensing at room-temperature |

Nano-hybrid structures of SWCNT/MoO3 pn-junction were fabricated and their ethanol sensing properties at room temperature were examined. The SWCNT/MoO3 hybrid was fabricated directly onto silicon dioxide substrate by co-arc-discharge method followed by methanol treatment and oxidation processes. The morphology and structural characteristics were examined by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The highest ethanol sensing signal was observed at room temperature for p-SWCNT, and at 250 oC for n-MoO3. While the hybrid of them showed the highest response at room temperature, the performance was further improved compared to the pure structures with higher response and recovery kinetics. The synergetic effect was resulted from the adsorption of increased ethanol molecules on MoO3 and consequently increased hole depletion from the SWCNT, which led to enhanced sensor signal. The stability and selectivity of the sensor at room temperature were also investigated. |
