Keeping in view of exclusive features of MnO2, supported Ru(OH)x@MnO2 catalytic system was developed by simple wet impregnation method and applied for oxidation of alcohols and amines, oxidative dehydrogenation of amines to nitriles and hydration of nitriles to amides. Particle size and surface morphology of Ru(OH)x@MnO2 was evaluated through XRD, TEM, and EDS mapping analysis. All transformations were carried out at ambient temperature and pressure in a non-polar solvent, hexane. For all conversions, the as synthesized catalyst exhibited >99% yield and excellent selectivity over a wide range of substrates. In applications, we used various forms of MnO2for furfuryl alcohol oxidation to furfural. Among these, MnO2 nanowires demonstrated almost the same catalytic performance as Ru(OH)x@MnO2 at 100°C in toluene. The easy separation of the catalyst from the reaction mixture and several times reusability assured the heterogeneous nature of both catalysts. |
