Graphene oxide (GO) was functionalized with nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) (NTA-GO) in which four metal ions including Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+ and Cu2+ were chelated, leading to a different degree of quenching on its fluorescence. The metal-modulated fluorescence of NTA-GO showed unique responses to several neurotransmitters including glutamic acid (Glu), adenosine 5′-triphosphate (ATP), adenosine 5′-diphosphate (ADP), dopamine (Dopa), and norepinephrine (NorEpi). In particular, Cu-NTA-GO was able to recognize NorEpi selectively via its turn-on fluorescence in the presence of NorEpi. Finally, Cu-NTA-GO was applied to the selective detection of NorEpi secreted from PC-12 cells. |
