Cyclic olefin polymers (COP) are assembled by the copolymerization of the cyclic olefins (norbornene) with olefin like ethylene and propylene. They are amorphous, transparent and copolymer of linear olefin and cyclic olefin which exhibit combination of high transparency, excellent impact resistance, improved shatter resistance versus glass and superior moisture barrier properties. Here, we synthesized several cyclic olefin series to utilize them as a monomer. In particular, oxanobornene (ONB) based monomers were prepared by the Diels-Alder reaction of furan and maleic anhydride, and continuous alcoholysis of the anhydride produced ester-based ONBs. Their chemical structures were confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopies. In the presentation, polymerization details of the synthesized monomers will be discussed. |
