The droplet contact charging phenomenon has been studied as novel microfluidics research subject. We have tried to study the fundamental charge transfer mechanism of this interesting phenomenon and found some charging differences between positive and negative charging behaviors. However, related studies were qualitative descriptions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a numerical model for the electrostatic analysis and conducted numerical analysis for simulating charging difference of the droplet using that model. In this work, we assume the charging differences occur due to electrostatic environments of our system and the result of numerical analysis proves our assumption. Also, all of charge amounts of a droplet are calculated using the electrostatic module in COMSOL Multiphysics. Throughout the numerical analysis, we simulated the same charging differences with experimental result and found that the charging difference of the droplet changes according to surrounding electrostatic environments. Our numerical model will contribute to understand how much the droplet contact charging system is sensitive to surrounding electrostatic environment. |
