Surface display systems consist of a carrier protein that acts as an anchoring motif, a passenger protein which plays various roles as a target protein and a host strain. In bacterial cell surface displays, many different proteins have been developed for use as anchoring motifs, including outer membrane proteins, lipoproteins, autotransporters, subunits of surface appendages and S-layer proteins. Among the different anchoring motifs, outer membrane proteins, such as FadL, LamB, Lpp- OmpA, OmpA, OmpC, OmpF, OmpS, OprF and PhoE, have been widely used to display various peptides and proteins, including small molecular weight peptides, antibodies, domains, enzymes and receptors. A wide range of applications of the display technology has been reported including bioadsorption, whole-cell biocatalyst, peptide library screening, live vaccine development, antibody production, and biosensors. Here, we will show several applications of cell surface displayed enzyme in the fields of biotechnology. |
