제목 Heterogeneous optical phase shifter for optical switch and modulator application
초록 An efficient phase modulation is realized by heterogenious semiconductor-insulator-semiconductor (SIS) phase shifter for high-performance optical switches and modulators. We can easily assemble and change the characteristics of semiconductors and insulators through this heterogenious SIS structure; thus, this structure allows us utilizing and enhancing the functionalities of optical switches and modulators. Especially, III-V/Si hetero-structure can enhance the modulation efficiency of an optical phase shifter. 5-time-higher phase shift efficiency is achievable with this structure, compared to the conventional Si optical phase shifter [1]. We can also realize high modulation efficiency using the functional insulators in a heterogenious SIS structure. Negative capacitance effect can enhance the charge accumulation by the internal voltage amplification in ferroelectrics [2]. In this presentation, I will introduce the recent progress on the optical switches and modulators using a heterogenious SIS structure.
