The nano-clay has been widely used as inorganic reinforcements for polymer matrix to create polymer nanocomposites with improved barrier, mechanical & thermal properties. Interlayer cations(Na+) of hydrophilic nano-clay are replaced with the organic modifier to enhance the dispersibility. In the clay modification, most of researchers have investigated the relationships between the structure of modifier, dispersibility and thermal stability of organo-clay. In this work, we investigated the effect of the ultrasonic dispersion on the clay modification. PET/ongano-clay nanocomposites were prepared by the twin screw extruder and characterized by IR, TGA, XRD, and TEM. Therefore, the ultrasonic treated organo-clay was improved dispersibility and thermal stability than non-treated organo-clay. Especially, TEM images of PET/organo-clay nanocomposites show that the ultrasonic treated organo-clay was more effective for exfoliated structure of clay. |
