Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) has excellent mechanical properties, electrical properties, chemical resistance and so on. However, PET has a poor impact strength and heat resistance. Nylon6,6 has good chemical resistance, stiffness, abrasion resistance. In this study, we expected enhancement in mechanical properties by blending PET and Nylon6,6 along with nanoclay. PET/Nylon6,6/clay nanocomposites were prepared by melt mixing in a twin screw extruder. Since PET/Nylon6,6 is a immiscible blend, compatibilizer was added to increase compatibility. To enhance mechanical properties of PET/Nylon6,6 /compatibilizer blends, two types of modified organoclays(C15A, C25A) were used as well as pristine montmorillonite(PM). To investigate surface properties of nanocomposites, contact angle was measured. In addition, mechanical properties were measured and morphologies were studied by SEM. |
