Effects of Incorporation of Ceramic Particles into Naturally-derived Polymeric Films on Osteoblast Responses |

Naturally derived polymers such as chitosan and collagen are highly biocompatible and degradable by enzymatic activity, which confers strong capability of the polymers for the usage in bone substitutes. The surface properties of the materials, however, can be crucial to determine the cellular responses, i.e. adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. In this study, we prepared the chitosan/collagen complex film with incorporated ceramic particles. The ceramic inclusion also induced significant changes in osteoblastic responses including adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Our observation illustrated that the ceramic particle inclusion significantly improved osteoblastic responses, demonstrating that this technique can be further applied for the improvement of surface modification of bone substitutes. |
