In this study, the antimicrobial and deodorant activities of the PET/ZnO composite fibers were investigated. With this purpose, three different polyester(PET)/ZnO filaments were prepared by incorporating various ZnO nanostructure (rod, plate and sphere) into PET filament via melt-spinning process. Antimicrobial activity of as-prepared fiber was evaluated by shake-flask method using two types of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The deodorant activity of as-prepared fiber was evaluated by gas detection tube method. All the PET/ZnO filaments had excellent antimicrobial activity with bacterial reduction value of 99.9%. PET/ZnO rod filament showed the best deodorant performance of 60.0%. Both antimicrobial and deodorant activities of PET/ZnO filaments were influenced by the morphology of ZnO. |
