Polylactide/bamboo fiber biocomposites treated with an alkali solution and a silane coupling agent were prepared by melt compounding. The chemical composition of bamboo fiber was investigated in water, cellulose, lignin, and non-water-soluble ingredients. After the alkali pretreatment process, the bamboo fiber bundles became thinner and transparent. Similar to the content of bamboo fibers, the treatment of the bamboo fibers had a strong influence on the thermal and mechanical properties of the PLA/bamboo fiber composites. The ineffective interfacial adhesion was caused by the heterogeneity of each of the material properties. On the other hand, preparing composite materials using an alkali surface treatment process and adding a silane coupling agent showed excellent mechanical and thermal properties compared with the properties of PLA composite containing pristine BF. |
