CT is limited owing to a shortage of high quality donor cornea. Construction of neo-cornea utilizing novel, biocompatible and biodegradable scaffold, could address such formidable challenges. Herein, we designed optically transparent, micro-structurally stable PLGA and SF film, surface modified with Col I. Col I and cultured cells did not demonstrate any alteration in transparency, however, material type is able to produce difference on it. Cultured CEnCs on Col I modified surface showed better initial attachment, proliferation, and expression of mRNAs. Even though differences occur between Col I modified films, they do not show any significance on morphology, expression of markers and well-expressed functional proteins which are regulated functions of CE. Overall, the results suggest that Col I modified PLGA and SF film may be a suitable alternative for high quality CEnCs expansion and transplantation.
